Sprung Dance Floor System

The above image shows a completed “sprung” dance floor with added floor mounted ballet barre’s and an inset wall cabinet for the sound equipment. This installation was for “The Dallas Conservatory.”

The image below shows the basic structure of a sprung dance floor system.

First, attached to the bottom layer of wood are a series of foam blocks. These blocks add shock absorption qualities and resilience to the floor that aid in injury prevention and the dancers performance. The top layer of wood is a fine quality of wood that leaves a very smooth finish for the dance vinyl (known in the industry under an old brand name “Marley”) to then be glued to for a more permanent installation or taped to for a more temporary installation.

The seams on the dance vinyl were then heat welded for a permanent installation on this particular floor.
